I saw you work with Tobin (and even got to work with him myself a little), and you did a great job with him. It is certainly not an all encompassing training method, but it is a very valuable tool to have in your tool box. With my working dogs, there are also treats, drive building games, e-collar, marker training, balls, tug toys, and more significant corrections when necessary in that tool box as well. If folks would adhere to these simple rules, we would see a dramatic decrease in dog bites...and many innocent dogs would not be left holding the bag (being re-homed, banished to confinement, or killed) due to our ignorance.
