Tyler, that is beautiful stuff! Lots of folks who are as busy as you would just say there isn't enough time to help out the rescues...especially because usually it's not a paid situation. I saw you work with Tobin (and even got to work with him myself a little), and you did a great job with him. Nice work buddy, and way to keep it all balanced (the training AND your life!!) :)

I incorporate this concept of leash work into virtually everything I do with a dog when they are on leash. It is certainly not an all encompassing training method, but it is a very valuable tool to have in your tool box. With my working dogs, there are also treats, drive building games, e-collar, marker training, balls, tug toys, and more significant corrections when necessary in that tool box as well.

Hey Tyler,

How different is your approach to training with your working dog? Do you do less pressure/release to form behaviors?

My goal is to transition into professional dog training once my current side business has sold. What you have done is a great inspiration.

Here is a video of my pup from the other week. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_vyPBiQ05k&feature=youtube_gdata_player

All the best,

Rob

Nice work. And lovely to see some young trainers like yourself that "get it". Makes me feel hopeful about the future of the pet training industry.

Great article and video. I can't wait to go home and practice this with my two dogs. I like the quote "Pressure Motivates, Release Educates."

Great stuff Tyler. If folks would adhere to these simple rules, we would see a dramatic decrease in dog bites...and many innocent dogs would not be left holding the bag (being re-homed, banished to confinement, or killed) due to our ignorance. I'm goint to re-post this on my wall so all my clients can refresh themselves! :)
